Third Court biography

What this job is

The 3rd Court of Appeals is one of the courts that hear appeals from trial courts in its part of Texas, in both civil and criminal cases. Each of those courts has a chief justice and at least two other justices. Appeals are usually heard by three justices.

The Third Court's justices page names the current justices and does not list the counties in that court. The chief justice is the head of the court. On this ballot, only the chief justice seat is up.

The area

Who held this seat

Darlene Byrne's election in 2020 is from the Third Court's own page. That page does not give the day or name earlier chief justices. Ballotpedia says Jeff L. Rose was chief justice from November 12, 2010, to December 31, 2020, and that he lost the November 3, 2020 election to Darlene Byrne. Ballotpedia is not an official government page. A dated list of chief justices before Rose was not found. The court's map has changed, so an earlier chief justice did not serve today's district.

This list is not from an official government page.
